Masterclass

Professional training

Sean Gandini

In this rare masterclass, a collaboration between Emil Dahl and Maison de Jonglage, you'll have the possibility of getting a unique insight into Emils work. Here you'll go through the methods and techniques that were used in the creation of HOLY and the latest concepts and ideas, that make up their philosophical view of juggling. Since balance has been the focus of Emils research the past decade, this masterclass will have that as a starting point and branch out to different parts of life.

This workshop will focus on the rhythmic choreography of juggling. We'll also be working on connecting juggled material to various written texts, and playing with how movement and words merge to create surprises, paradoxes or shifts in meaning. The mornings will be devoted to rhythmic and physical juggling, and in the afternoons we'll be writing juggling to text and exploring the possible links between the two.

Liza Van Brakel

Liza van Brakel has developed a personal juggling style coming from a non-juggling background. She started out as an acrobatic dancer before becoming a juggler. She took juggling as a manipulation of objects and combined it with the movements discovered in acro-dance. She first played with one object for a long time before moving on to two or three. She has created a unique style based on movement and physicality.

The workshop will propose to share and experiment together tools for composing a juggling in motion, inspired in particular by the notion of "stop-motion".
Among other things, we will deal with blocking, multiplexes, space, the notions of fluidity and concordance, in order to develop a vocabulary and juggled sentences.

Emilia Tau

Antipodism is a juggling practice where traditionally the juggler uses a bench (trinka) to manipulate objects with his feet. From 2001, Emilia Tau developed a technique of antipodism with juggling balls and contributed to the renewal of this art, using an object hitherto little used in antipodism. She was thus able to invest the space without the trinka and used the siteswap and other methods specific to juggling for the creation of patterns in solo and in duo. Means that gave him more freedom in composition and expression. At the same time, she has developed a pedagogy specific to this technique.
