Le vertige de l’envers

This short piece, aimed primarily at young audiences, will use illusionist and circus gestures to raise highly visual questions about the different levels of perception of the world around us.
Le vertige de l’envers takes spectators into a universe where the laws of gravity and time can be reversed, expanded or abolished, upsetting the senses and emotions in a dreamlike, timeless moment.
Yet everything in the play area resembles what we know, everything is identical to our reality. Yet shapes, bodies, time and objects will react differently, as if in another fantasy dimension, another planet.
Liquids will metamorphose, weights will lighten until they take flight, bodies will float and balls will escape their usual trajectories.
In this playful cosmos, even the fall is upside down.

In a world where our eyes have gradually become accustomed to virtual reality filters, such as Instagram, tiktok, etc., younger people were born with them. Touching a screen to drag and drop, for example, is an almost instinctive gesture when it comes to manipulating virtual objects. How to reintroduce and reinstill a sense of wonder into reality.

L’envolée cirque

L’Envolée Cirque is the perpetuation of a life of exchange and transmission in defense of the circus arts and itinerancy, under a big top in a circular space.

Michèle D’Angelo and Laurent Barboux, masters of the flexible wire, co-founded L’Envolée in 1997.

Then they felt the need to create their own space, their own projects, their own way of approaching the dance floor.

L’Envolée then became L’Envolée Cirque in 2002 with the acquisition of a big top for the creation of the show
Et Moi
which toured for 4 years.

In 2012, after their training at the Académie Fratellini, Pauline Barboux and Jeanne Ragu, aerial dancers on Quadrisse, joined them, with a desire to share and perpetuate the company.

Until 2018, the four artists co-wrote and toured together several shows under the big top (
Le Voyage de Michü et Mr Lô
preceded by Tanda,
Traits d’Union
), two generations of circus artists and an itinerant technical team take up the challenge of exchange, sharing and transmission.

Then Pauline and Jeanne co-wrote
Lichen
a small aerial form for the public space, and dream of a new project under a big top, in suspension:
ELLE/S
was born in October 2020.

In 2022, all together and accompanied by the seven musicians of the group Fanfarinha, they re-create
Le Bal Circassien
a festive, high-performance ball.

We are currently working on a new creation for young audiences, Le vertige de l’envers, due for release at the end of 2023.

If there are several aspects to the company, there’s also Nicolas Longuechaud-Compagnie Longshow. L’Envolée supports his projects and promotes his work in optical juggling and object manipulation. As his “travelling companion”, she accompanies him and invites him to take part in installations, cartes blanches and in situ projects …

The company pays particular attention to the body in movement, in its dilated state, and to the space that surrounds it, vertical and horizontal, in volume, to let the spectator enter into a state of contemplation, reverie and surprise. For each show, a set design and apparatus are conceived to show a constant state of imbalance, revealing the mastery and fragility of bodies in action. The notion of suspension is at the heart of our commitments.
