On ne va pas se défiler ! – Cultural Olympiad 24

Action culturelle

  • Outside the walls

A giant octopus, horses, medal-winning dancers, tender or explosive gestures, shimmering and singing processions take to the streets. Initiated by La Beauté du Geste, a collective of eight cultural venues in Seine-Saint-Denis, On ne va pas se défiler! has spent two years building a gigantic parade involving over a thousand young people.

Thirteen segments imagined with them by circus, theater, music and dance artists, create a festive spirit that carries the creativity, solidarity and resolutely Olympic shape of the 93.

On ne va pas se défiler ! A parade that will carry loud and clear the creativity, diversity and solidarity of the youth of Seine-Saint-Denis.

When Paris was designated the Olympic city for 2024, eight creative and performing arts venues in Seine-Saint-Denis (*) wanted to form a collective to dream about what the Cultural Olympiad could be: an artistic, festive and unifying event, combined with a deeper reflection on the changes we must make in this territory.

These eight places gathered in the collective La Beauté du Geste (*) are now pooling their energy to organize in June 2024 a great parade built from September 2022 through a long participatory process. These long-term artistic projects, driven by the eight venues, will eventually form the different segments of the parade composed of a total of more than 1200 young people. Resulting from commissions placed by the members of La Beauté du Geste to artists and imagined in close collaboration with the inhabitants, each segment will be singular.

HYMNES EN JEUX

The Orchestre de Spectacle de Montreuil, made up of amateur and professional musicians, revisits a repertoire of thirty hymns, moving from one country to another in a wide variety of styles, through associations of ideas and the unexpected. A festive Odyssey!

Olivier Pasquet, circus artist from the Centre National des Arts du Cirque, co-founder of the Cheptel Aleïkoum collective (some 15 creations since 2004 in France and abroad). Cheptel Aleïkoum website.

And Nikolaus, a circus artist, clown, juggler and philosopher from the very first graduating class of the CNAC, who left with the congratulations of the jury (bronze medal at the Festival Mondial du Cirque de demain, Prix Raymond Devos and Prix d’auteur de la SACD). Pre-O-Coupé website

And, Vlaïllitch Tuffa, multi-instrumentalist musician, percussion teacher specializing in Brazilian music (CRR93, CRC Grigny), trace anthropologist, accompanied by musician supervisors Lamine Sow, Nicolas Landru, Frédéric Hervé, Anne Sophie Deveze, and Nicolas Deprez.

Together with a team of loyal circus artists, classes from collège Georges Politzer (including 4ème 3 and 3ème 3 CHAM option classes for the musical part), 3 classes from lycées Arthur Rimbaud and Denis Papin, young people from the Maison Pour Tous Youri Gagarine youth center and the batucada from conservatoires d’Aubervilliers La Courneuve, de Grigny, de Nandy, d’Orsay and the Centre d’Animation Goscinny, we’re going to create a participatory parade, like a crossing with a circus and musical crew, a paradé danced, juggled, vogued and celebrated to the rhythm of the batucada.

Our stroll will be dominated, overtaken and embarked upon by a giant Kraken (octopus), roaring to the sound of the 10,000 empty plastic bottles that make up this sea monster. A giant puppet into which we’ll breathe life through circus, dance, music and our own creative sense of fun.

All in a joyful, festive atmosphere… to reach the sixth continent.

Let’s crank it up!
