Présentation

We will focus on both technical precision and creative freedom. The sessions will combine targeted technical work—aimed at refining the accuracy of execution, the efficiency of movements, and the handling of objects—with exploration based on improvisation, where juggling becomes a tool for exploring movement, composition, and choreographic reflection. The exercises and challenges will be tailored to different levels of experience, allowing everyone to deepen their own practice.

By combining techniques drawn from foot juggling (antipodism), aerial juggling, and contact juggling, we will incorporate all parts of the body into object manipulation patterns—ranging from simple and expressive to technically demanding. Using methods drawn from dance, physical theater, martial arts, and object manipulation—and developed by Ariane Öchsner—we will explore the transitions between techniques, the relationship between the body and the object, as well as ways to expand juggling beyond a trick-based practice to make it an expressive art form that communicates through movement. Through guided improvisations, composition exercises, technical training, group discussions, and individual feedback, participants will develop a new gestural vocabulary while strengthening their technical skills and artistic expression.

Whether you’re just starting out in juggling or are already an experienced juggler, regardless of your background and physical abilities, this masterclass offers you tools to refine your technique, broaden your creative approach, and transform your manipulation of objects into an expressive art form: an aesthetic language that fosters emotional communication.

Prérequis

Participants are invited to bring any (juggling) prop they would like to work with.
