Matinée de la revue Jonglages: Juggling and rhythmic gymnastics: from distinct practices to common objects

10am to 12pm

This year, the editorial committee of Jonglages magazine proposes to start from an observation that concerns rhythmic gymnastics as much as juggling: some practitioners mobilize similar objects (or “devices”) such as the ball, the club and the hula hoop. In considering these, a number of gymnasts and jugglers are invited to question the similarities and differences between their respective practices.

With : Isabelle André, Danaé Collard, Isaline Hugonnet and Yu-Yin Lin

Rencontre organized by ARTCENA and the Rencontre des Jonglages festival: Sport and juggling: influences, differences and resonances

2.15pm to 3.40pm

Juggling and sport share many points in common: intensive training, the quest for mastery and excellence, almost personified object-aggressions… If juggling transcends technical virtuosity by transforming it into a vocabulary at the service of dramatic writing, what then remains, in the artistic gesture, of this demanding ludo-sportive practice that develops physical and mental endurance? How does this discipline of life, this asceticism, nourish and influence creation? Artists and thinkers will share their thoughts and experiences.

With : Pierre Philippe-Meden, Jean-Baptiste Diot, Johan Swartvagher & Nil Dinç
Moderator: Gwenola David (Director, ARTCENA)

Followed by a presentation of “En finir”, a podcast retracing the utopian, poetic but very real preparation for a juggling marathon.

Johan Swartvagher, juggler and author, will explain how he came up with the idea of writing a podcast about juggling and the self-sacrifice involved in juggling and running.

You can listen to the first 7 episodes here:
