The Rencontre des Jonglages festival and Art’r, the Parisian public space season, have joined forces to give the G-Bistaki collective the opportunity to present their latest creation, Tancarville , several times in the Ile-de-France region, in Paris and Bondy.

Using an object as common as the white sheet, enveloping bodies and stage space in an interweaving of poetic and soberly ordinary scenes, Tancarville plays out a timeless fresco in which the absurd leads to humor.

Alternately worn, beaten, washed, stretched, folded, the sheet is transformed by the manipulations into a carnal envelope, a costume, a headdress, an accessory, an opera set; it becomes rhythm, breath, a working or juggling instrument. A personal, yet universal object, it bears witness to our collective memory and intimate rituals, in a dreamlike journey through civilizations and time.

The G. Bistaki

Born from the meeting of 5 jugglers and dancers, Le G. Bistaki came together in 2006 to shake up the daily artistic and stage life of its members by innovating in the way they search for and perform. Defining itself as a Cirque Chorégraphique d’Investigation, it develops creations at the crossroads of theater, juggling and dance, in which objects, often in large numbers, dress up the space and transform the bodies.

Designed for public spaces, whether rural or urban, his creations flourish in close connection with the spatial and social characteristics of a place. Taking the time necessary to invest it, Le G. Bistaki overflows the dreamlike dimension of the stage and opens up the playing space, dressing up the landscape with plastic installations in fixed or ambulatory forms.

Alongside its collective creations, Le G. Bistaki supports and develops unique projects in close proximity to local communities and their stakeholders, with extended timeframes. These “artistic extensions” aim to address the cross-cutting notions of research, mediation and training through the circus and, more generally, art in public spaces.

Tancarville is his fourth collective creation.
