Sometimes things not chosen turn out to be interesting paths…

In this contemporary juggling show, with technique, poetry and virtuosity, the circus artist Martin Palisse tells about his illness. Of the one that suffocates, of its incidence in the relationship with the others, in the choices of life, the postures… A powerful and intimate portrait. The director David Gauchard, like a sociologist or a reporter, captures Martin Palisse’s words to stage them alongside a radical, tiring, enduring, slow, powerful juggling act, an extremely physical act.

Martin Palisse

Juggler, author and director of the Sirque, Pôle National Cirque de Nexon Nouvelle-Aquitaine.

Thediscovery of Steve Reich’s and Terry Riley’s phase music, known as minimalist music, which Jérôme Thomas had introduced him to, was decisive in the orientation of his juggling composition work.

The whole of Martin Palisse’s work is therefore intimately linked to an almost radical use of music (whether minimalist, post-rock or electronic) as the primary support for his juggling discourse: energetic, rigorous, often refined but nevertheless very emotional. His juggling is thus developed on extremely developed scenic and sound geometrical bases and in permanent adequacy.

David Gauchard

Director and artistic director of the Cie L’unijambiste for 20 years.

Ds part of his company, he has directed some fifteen plays: Mademoiselle Julie by August Strindberg, Talking Heads by Alan Bennett, Hedda Gabler by Henrik Ibsen (translated into Tunisian Arabic by Mohamed Driss), as well as Knives in the hens by David Harrower or Ekaterina Ivanovna by Leonid Andreyev in 2014. He is most notable for his Shakespeare productions: Hamlet in 2004, Richard III in 2009 and A Midsummer Night’s Dream in 2012.

His work has the particularity of mixing artistic influences and networks. Authors, translators, actors, musicians, opera singers, graphic artists and photographers mingle and collaborate in his shows, always with the desire to make sense of the text.
